Hardwiring Happiness, ChatGPT,
and the Seven Factors of Awakening [Wisdom Workshop Newsletter #39]
Hello wonderful people,
and welcome back to the Wisdom Workshop Newsletter : a selection of links and quotes about emergent education, wisdom, and well-being in the 21st century.
This is issue #39, on hardwiring happiness, ChatGPT and how the seven factors of awakening connect to group dynamics and Kegan’s adult development theory.
In good workshop news, 🎉 the Art of Living Beautifully #1 is full of five wonderful people! Now enrolling Cohort 13 of our not-self-authorship workshop, Writing the Good Life.
If you’re exploring a transition, re-writing your story, or wanting a supportive container to practice becoming who you’re becoming, we’d love to have you.
🔗 Hardwiring Happiness, ChatGPT, and Awakening
1). Dr. Rick Hansen’s TEDx Talk on Hardwiring Happiness. We need to savor our positive experiences with our whole body. Recall them vividly, feel them deeply, and stick with them at least 10-20 seconds. Remember them often.
2). This conversation I had with ChatGPT for resources on hardwiring happiness. An interesting AI use-case for bibliophile happiness-nerds I promised to share in this clubhouse room.
3). This conversation I had with ChatGPT on the seven factors of awakening, the science of group facilitation, contemporary theories of adult development, and, surprisingly, ChatGPT’s strange tendency for bizarre misattribution.
4.) A compelling and optimistic take on AI with Emad Mostaque, the CEO and co-founder of Stability AI has me considering AI as a technological, infrastructural, and psychological co-pilot in every major industry. And in psycho-social education?
5). Let’s Build a Planetary Tutoring System with Zak Stein. An inspiring (if wild) take on an AI-enabled protopian future of education with an educational futurist. Education, at it’s core, as an extended “joint-attentional situation”. Thanks, Gavin, for these last two links. I also found this glossary provided by the Consilience Project.
6). (Human) Writing in the age of AI. David Perrel, via Write of Passage, says humans can make writing POP: Be Personal. Be Observant. Be Playful.
💎 Quotes I’m Considering
“When the identity system is under stress, you will lie to yourself about yourself. There will be systematically distorted communication between your own parts.”
― Zak Stein, Educator and Futurist
“Human development and learning must be understood as the Earth's most valuable resources, with human potential serving as the open frontier into which energy and hope can begin to flow.”
―Zak Stein, again
“By creating a safe and supportive environment, a facilitator can help individuals to develop greater self-awareness and build supportive relationships that foster growth and well-being.”
― ChatGPT, in a chat on the seven factors of awakening
“… you end up wanting to seek out sincere communication … a desire and a knowing that can tell the difference … the strategy isn’t to compete with bad faith tactics — it’s to be able to somehow create these contexts that people can take refuge in.”
― Zak Stein, again
“Responsibility to take over one's own biography means to get clear about who one wants to be.”
― Jürgen Habermas, sociologist and philosopher
“Real learning gets to the heart of what it is to be human. Through learning we re-create ourselves.”
― Marilyn Taylor, in Emergent Learning For Wisdom
