Shape of the Heart Your Words
Whatever you’d want for your daughter —
presence, a life of aliveness undeadened
by the little square screen — so, too, for you:
already noticing the pull of the addiction you
have to the updates and opportunities to hear —
to choose the media you listen to: and
loving media is a good thing — listening
and listening close to what you hear
perhaps the most important skill —
and choosing what you listen to,
still, also very important —
but at the expense of the
eye-contact you might
make with your most
beautiful daughter?
Priorities, the
Master said —
priorities.
You are
what
you
choose
love
back to
the end, rightly
your striving, on
that all your will,
somehow remembering
in the descending line,
challenge of ending the word
the future you’re reaching to, the
make, a little longer to the right,
the shape of the heart your words
whole, as David Bohm might say —
if our one mind a part of an undivided
the golden seat to be able to see it:
any of this exists at all — and we in
to marvel and to wonder what and how,
look at the sky and the trees for the first time,
you, the freshness of how it might feel to
laughing at the the world between and all around
the deep recollection of her eyes, smiling,
pages as opportunities for presence and
and note what your noticing — these…
and so you take the opportunity to Step Back.
I transcribed the second
half backwards, line by line,
and it worked well, somehow.
Write your own:
Play with writing lines of descending length,
to get to those few words that really matter.
